-Yantai-
Yantai City, a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Shandong Province, is located in the northeastern part of the Shandong Peninsula. It borders Weihai City to the east, Weifang City to the west, and Qingdao City to the southwest. To the north, it faces the Bohai Sea and the Yellow Sea, lying opposite the Liaodong Peninsula and across the sea from Dalian City. The terrain consists of low mountains and hills, and the climate is warm temperate continental monsoon. The Yantai dialect belongs to the Jiaoliao Mandarin group.
Historically, Yantai was the territory of the Dongyi tribe, who established a kingdom here during the Xia Dynasty. In the 31st year of the Hongwu reign of the Ming Dynasty (1398), to strengthen maritime defenses, the Ming government established the Qishan Garrison here, marking the earliest urban prototype of Yantai. Beacon towers were built on Beishan Mountain, also known as “Lang Yantai” (Wolf Signal Station), from which Yantai derives its name. Yantai is a Type II large city designated by the State Council as a central city of the Shandong Peninsula, a key port city in the Bohai Rim region, and a National Historical and Cultural City. It ranks among China's first fourteen coastal open cities, is an internationally renowned coastal city, a Tier 2 city in China, an International Wine City, a recipient of the UN Habitat Award, a “Gold Medal City” for investment environment in China, China's Most Charming City, one of Shandong's three core cities for new-old kinetic energy conversion, a core city of the China (Shandong) Pilot Free Trade Zone, one of the first pilot cities for carbon peaking, and the City of Olympic Champions.
